Courtney Frost

Instructor

My name is Courtney Frost and I am a 2008 graduate of James F. Byrnes High School and currently attend the University of South Carolina Upstate.  Dance has and will remain a major part of my life, since I have been doing it since I was two years old.  I have danced at StarMakers Dance Company in Inman, SC for thirteen years and was hired as a dance teacher two years ago.  I have been on the Competition Teams since I was ten years old and still travel and dance with the Teams today.  My specialty dances are Clogging and Irish or River Dancing.  The Competition Teams that I have been on have won many trophies and awards throughout my years.   I began clogging and received many 1st place and overall awards, but then found a new love…IRISH.  I have studied Irish since I was ten with Christi Stanton, the director of StarMakers.  She was such an inspiration in my life that it made me the dancer I am today.  Once I became comfortable dancing Irish, my parents and I decided that it was time to compete my Irish solo…and that is what I did.  We went to the State Dance Competition in Myrtle Beach in 2004 and I had high hopes I would do ok, but to my surprise I placed First in my category with a Diamond 1st Place Award.  And then when they announced the overall winners I was against 80 dancers, so I did not expect to do very well, but then they called my name over the microphone and I WON the STATE TITLE with my Irish solo!  I was even featured on the competition’s website, their slide show, the newspaper and even their program book!  I have danced in Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, Walt Disney World, been seen on Your Carolina, and many other local performances.  So as you can tell, I plan on being active in dance for many years to come.
